Project Overview
About the Project
Journeyoo is a travel discovery platform built around activities and destinations rather than traditional accommodation bookings. Visitors can search for experiences such as rock climbing, explore locations on an interactive map, and discover nearby recommendations for places to eat and stay. These recommendations also support the platform’s affiliate marketing model.
We designed and developed the website from scratch using WordPress and Elementor, with a custom plugin powering the search engine and Google Maps integration. A custom recommendation system connects activities and destinations with relevant nearby places, bringing search, maps, and local recommendations together in one interface.
The Challenge
Journeyoo needed more than a standard travel website. The main challenge was building a search system that could connect different types of activities with geographic locations and recommend useful places nearby.
With no existing website or system to build upon, the entire search and recommendation functionality had to be developed from the ground up, including its integration with an interactive map.
The Solution
We built the website on WordPress using Elementor and developed a custom plugin for the core search and mapping functionality.
The system uses Google Maps API to display locations and support map-based exploration. We also developed custom recommendation logic that connects activity searches with relevant nearby places to eat and stay.
The result is a responsive platform where visitors can move from searching for an activity to exploring destinations and local recommendations without switching between separate tools or websites.
What Changed
The completed platform brought activity-based search, interactive maps, and location recommendations together in a fully functional travel discovery website.
Visitors could search for activities, explore matching destinations, and find nearby accommodation and dining options, while the recommendation system supported Journeyoo’s affiliate business model.
